Adela Mercedes Portillo, a shining light in the lives she touched, was born on June 14, 2003, in New York and left us far too soon on March 25, 2025. She was just 21 years old, yet her vibrant spirit and kind-hearted essence made a profound impact on all who knew her.
Adela brought joy and laughter wherever she went. She was sweet, goofy, and full of life, with a personality that could brighten anyone’s day. Her joyful nature was evident in her love for playing with babies and her cherished dogs, Niko and Stella. Those who spent time with her will forever remember her playful antics and the way she could effortlessly turn any frown into a smile. She had a talent for injecting fun and warmth into every moment, ensuring that those around her felt cared for and loved.
Family was of utmost importance to Adela, and she was the glue that brought everyone together. One of the most treasured memories was the last Christmas shared with her in her apartment, where she went above and beyond to create a joyous atmosphere, decorating beautifully and showering her family with gifts—a true reflection of her love language. Adela had a way of making each family gathering special, reminding everyone of the importance of connection and togetherness. Her cousins, aunts, uncles, and grandparents will carry her loving spirit in their hearts, cherishing the moments they spent with her.
Adela possessed a remarkable determination, always displaying a go-getter attitude. From a young age, she expressed her desire to ride a motorcycle, and with hard work and dedication, she achieved that dream, proudly embracing the freedom it brought her. Her zest for life was contagious, inspiring those around her to pursue their passions with the same fervor she demonstrated.
Her immediate family—her beloved mother, Mercedes Portillo; father, Santiago Portillo; siblings, Emma, Dennis, and Ruben Portillo; fiancé, Orlando “Chucky” Gildo; and niece, Alina—will forever remember her for the wonderful memories they created together and the love she unfailingly showered upon them.
Adela Mercedes Portillo may no longer be with us in body, but her radiant spirit will live on in the hearts and minds of everyone she encountered. While we grieve her loss, we also celebrate the beautiful life she lived, one filled with laughter, love, and endless joy. Always remember the sweet, funny, and vibrant girl she was, as her memory will continue to inspire us to cherish one another and the magic of family.
