Allyne B. George, formerly of Charlotte, but now residing in Indian Trail, passed away Saturday afternoon, March 26, 2011. Allyne was born August 11, 1928, in Orlando, FL. She was the daughter of the late Sterling Larcus Burns and Pearl Merrill Burns of Alabama. Following graduation from Stetson University, she was based in Charleston, SC, where she served her country as an U.S. Naval Officer during the Korean War. Allyne, during her career years, had been employed with Christ Covenant Church; however, she retired from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School System. She was a member of the Junior Women's Club in Charlotte, an active member with the Home Extension Club in Union County, and volunteered at Hemby Bridge Elementary School for several years. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Charlotte for 35 years and had met many of her life-long close friends there. She had also been a member of Sardis Baptist Church, but was presently a member of Shiloh Baptist Church in Monroe. She enjoyed delivering food to shut-ins through one of the many programs offered by the church. Allyne loved the beach, shopping, the Chetola Resort, and will be remembered for her contagious smile, warm heart, and her love for Christ. She was a loving wife, mother, true Christian, and friend. She fought a long battle with breast cancer, bone cancer, and Parkinson's disease. The family sincerely thanks Hospice of Union County, Cindy's Hope Chest, the Oncology Department at CMC-Union, and her many friends and family that supported her during this journey. Her immediate family includes her husband, Edwin DuBose George of Indian Trail; son, Raymond George and his wife, Sharon, of Gainesville, GA; daughter, Grace Stanley and her late husband, Rob, of Indian Trail; three grandchildren, Patrick Stanley, Andrew and Michael George.
