Amie Nicole Hewitt

March 21, 1997 — September 2, 2015

No one is ever prepared for the death of a loved one, especially one of your own children. Death is a part of life. Unfortunately, we have no idea what God's plans are. They were written before she was born. Amie was very fun, giving, and loving. Her laughter was infectious and continues to sound in my heart, as I hope that it also does in yours. Like the rest of the family, Amie was a people gatherer. I often embarrass my children by my gathering skills. It's what I do. Roy and I taught our children well. They all gather people together naturally - they have never met a stranger. The word shy is not in the Hewitt vocabulary. Amie did more in her eighteen years of life than any of us ever hope to accomplish, one of which was to be invited to the Virgin Islands for a graduation gift. She was invited by the Ryder family. She adopted them, or maybe they adopted her. She had the time of her life with Hannah, Sarah, and the rest of the family. Words could never express our gratitude for giving Amie an incredible experience, one that is on many of our bucket lists. Please cross that off your list as soon as possible. Go enjoy life, experience the beauty of the places you want to visit. I know she was reliving every moment in her mind while in the hospital. She is in a beautiful place and I can only pray that Heaven is as equally beautiful. Maybe that is her Heaven. We can only pray that it is. I have often joked that I had Casey and Amie for Erin, but it was never a joke. Casey was barely a week old when Roy and I saw Erin carrying Casey by the head and one leg off to meet Barbies and read books in our playroom. Time for holding and carrying lessons! Casey was seventeen months old when Amie came along. She named her; she would rub my belly and say "Aaby", and in time it became "Amie". Very few people have their own song, but she did, and reveled in the music of Pure Prairie League. Casey, my old soul and mediator of the bunch, decided one day that Amie needed food - something she could chew - certainly a baby breastfeeding all the time couldn't be enough. Hence, Amie's first taste of blueberry PopTarts at two weeks old! Casey was so proud, having taken the initiative of feeding Amie. She told me, "Abie love boobary PopTart!" Of course, I panic, check on Amie, she is fine and enjoying a new flavor... or trying to figure out how to swallow. Amie leaves behind her legacy to four recipients at this point and time, ones of who will live through her. One heart, one pancreas, and two kidneys went. I pray that they have her zest for life as long as they may live. A long life is what I pray for - our lives stopped on a dime. Live each moment to the fullest. Every minute, every day has been an answered prayer. Complete your bucket list now! She leaves behind not only her friends, but her family as well. Erin, her fiancé Dalton, Casey, and her soul mate Bryan, Mom (Leslie), Dad (Roy), and beloved dogs, Salem, Max, and Miss Ruby, numerous aunts and uncles and cousins. She also leaves behind her loving boyfriend, Tyler Belk, & the rest of his family that viewed Amie as their own. She loved time with you, texting and Facebook, so very thankful that all of you were part of our lives and shared your life experiences with all of us. We were blessed to have the best nurses, physicians, and other families in the ICU and NICU. People are amazing. Meanwhile, we will continue to gather people. It is what we do - it is my heart! P.S. My absolute encouraging friends and teachers at Hemby Bridge Elementary, feel free to edit punctuation. Susan Shikany, thank you for encouraging me to explore the path that has blessed my soul and made "my heart grow three sizes that day" and has continued to grow for the last thirteen years. Thank you for believing in me. We are forever grateful. You have all touched our lives in so many ways. Speechless! Thank you. 1 Corinthians 13:4-8. Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast. It is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. * For those friends that wish to send floral arrangements, Please send them Tuesday, September 8th ONLY, and then directly to the church AFTER 3:00pm. -
