Andrea Leigh Williamson

August 12, 1944 — May 5, 2016

Andrea Leigh Williamson, born August 12th, 1944, went to her heavenly home on May 5th 2016. Andrea, originally from Portsmouth Virginia, with family roots in Watauga County, led a life full of adventure, smiles and color. After 35 years of life, Andrea prayed to God for things perhaps impossible- a husband and a baby. Her prayers were answered when she met Tom in 1979. Knowing he was the one, they married after 4 short months. After 4 years of working together and making memories, her next prayer was answered when she became pregnant with a baby girl, at a time when she thought her chance to be a mom had passed. After living in Jacksonville Florida for years, Andrea and family spent the next 26 years in South Florida, in Fort Pierce. While living in Ft Pierce, she made many friends working for a doctor, then went on to serve as a school nurse. There she had the opportunity to love and care for hundreds of middle and high school students every day. When she was not working, she would fill her time baking for church or school events, caring for a friends that were sick, enjoying beach cookouts, or cheering her family on at concerts. Three years ago Andrea and Tom had the opportunity to move to Charlotte, NC to be near their daughter and her family- including a grandson and granddaughter. Once in North Carolina, Andrea spent many of her days playing with "her babies." She loved baking with them, reading them stories, dancing, playing dress up and cuddling. She loved being "Nanny", another title she never thought she would hold, but was joyful to be that to Luke & Elise. Andrea was a voracious reader, usually reading two newspapers a day and always enjoyed a good biography. She also enjoyed staying in tune with current events through her People magazine. She loved good food, but her favorites for sure were an ice cold Coca-Cola and Hershey's chocolate- either the bar or in the form of "kisses" or "silver bells" as she would call them. She would decorate well for every holiday, loved colorful lipstick, and was one of the most generous and giving people you ever met. If you needed something and she had it- she would give it you. In addition to wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, her most important identity was that of Christian. Although she said she wasn't too "theological," she knew the gospel and lived it out every day. There is no doubt that she is in the presence of her King, rejoicing in the heavenly realms with those who have gone before her. -
