Barbara McLane Saul

March 31, 1927 — May 10, 2023

Charlotte, NC

Barbara McLane Saul, 96, passed away peacefully and surrounded by her loving family at Levine & Dickson Hospice at Southminister on Wednesday, May 10, 2023.

Mrs. Saul was born in Knoxville, Tennessee, on March 31, 1927, and was the daughter of the late William Lee McLane, Sr., and Irene Fleming McLane.  In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, William Lee McLane, Jr.; two sisters, Mary Lee Pitts and Nan Toole; and by husbands, Glenn Wilson Johnson, Norman Leslie Prevatte and Morton Herbert Saul.

Mrs. Saul spent her childhood moving around the United States, due to her father’s job with the Civilian Conservation Corp (CCC).  She lived in San Jose, CA, Cook Township, PA, Springfield, IL, New Orleans, LA, and Charlotte, NC.  Upon graduation from Cornell University in 1949, she moved to Greenwich Village, NY, and worked for Eastern Airlines at Rockefeller Center.  After returning to Charlotte, she went to work for WBTV where she met her first husband, Glenn Wilson Johnson.  Upon his death in 1958, she moved with her young daughter and her dog to La Jolla, CA, where they lived for ten years, until she met her second husband, Norman Leslie Prevatte.  They married in 1971 and moved back to Charlotte.  During the next years, Mrs. Saul worked for Photo Corporation of America (PCA), Raycom Sports, and Jefferson Sports, where she was in charge of hiring the television crews for all televised ACC Football and ACC Basketball games.  Even though divorced from Norman Prevatte, they remained good friends until his death.  At the age of 72, Mrs. Saul married Morton Herbert Saul (Herb) and they had eleven sweet years together until his death in 2008.

Mrs. Saul loved chocolate, reading a good mystery, the Bible, Billy Graham, animals, the beach, shopping, Central Church, and most importantly her family.

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Dianne Johnson Ulery (Randy); grandsons, Zachary Steven Ulery (Jessica) and Adam Glenn Ulery (Elaine); three great-grandchildren, William Herbert Ulery, Wyatt McLane Ulery and Chole Faith Ulery; two very special nieces, Mary Alexandra Townsend (Jim) and Julie Pitts Cashman (Don); two sweet family members, Janis Ulery and Lisa Ulery; and numerous family members, all of whom she loved very much.

The family would especially like to thank Levine & Dickson Hospice House at Southminister for their loving care and devotion to Mrs. Saul and family during her stay with them.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 3, 2023, at Central Church, 5301 Sardis Road, Charlotte, NC, 28270.  The family will receive family and friends after the service at the home of Randy and Dianne Ulery, 2940 Champaign Street, Charlotte, NC, 28210.

“I don’t ask for the meaning of the song of a bird or the rising of the sun on a misty morning.  There

they are, and they are beautiful.”  Pete Hamill

As per her wishes, Mrs. Saul’s ashes will be scattered off the Children’s Beach in La Jolla, CA.
