Bettye Jean Ganz

Bettye J. Ganz of Pineville, NC, died August 28, 2020. She was just 10 days short of her 97th birthday. Bettye was born in Fort Branch, IN and later the family moved to nearby Princeton, IN. She graduated from Princeton High School and attended Indiana State University in Terre Haute. She went on to receive her Medical Technologist degree in Lincoln, NE at Bryan Memorial Hospital. She later took a job at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN where she met her beloved husband, William R. Ganz. In 1949 Bettye and Bill were married in Princeton, IN. Bill worked for Northwest Airlines (now Delta) and was transferred from Rochester, MN to Seattle, WA and then to Shemya, Alaska in the Aleutian Islands where he was Station Manager for Northwest.  Bettye and Bill returned to Seattle then went on to own and operate a small business in Enderlin, ND. In 1962 the family moved to Hopkins, MN. Bettye worked as Medical Technologist at Abbott Hospital (now Abbott Northwestern) in Minneapolis until 1984 when she retired with 21 years of Exemplary Service. Bettye and Bill spent the majority of their retirement years in Ft. Pierce, FL especially enjoying the orange and grapefruit trees in their yard.  Bettye volunteered weekly at St. Lucie County Medical Center. Bettye and Bill loved to travel with family and friends, making numerous trips around the US,  Canada and Europe, the UK and Ireland. The family spent 21 Christmases in Florida and there was nothing Bettye loved more than having her family together, baking holiday treats and working a jigsaw puzzle. Bettye and Bill moved to the Charlotte area in 2005. Bill passed away in 2012. The couple had been married for 63 years. Bettye is survived by son Stephen also of Pineville, NC, daughter Carolyn (Jim Olsen) of Roseville, MN, daughter Sally of Charlotte, NC. Predeceased by brother Robert (Pauline) Miley, sisters; Vivian (Carl) Bitter and Judy (Allan) Olson.  

There will be a private memorial service at Living Saviour Lutheran Church Saturday, September 5 at 11:00 a.m.
