Bill Calvert

William Purdy "Bill" Calvert, 79, joyfully entered into the presence of his Heavenly Father on Sunday, November 24, 2013 after a short battle with cancer. Bill was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on March 14, 1934, son of the late Richard Bonsall Calvert and Catharine Purdy Calvert. Bill was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Calvert; son-in-law, Ron Shue; and granddaughter Ashley Shue. His immediate family includes his wife of 61 years, Betty; daughters, Linda Hohing and her husband Keith; Susan Barbee of San Clemente, CA; and Karen Shue. His grandchildren include Heather Pressley and her husband Mike; Lisa Hinson and her husband Zack; Brooke Barbee and Alan Barbee of Laguna Niguel, CA; Nolan Shue and Taylor Shue. His family also includes four great-grandchildren and his sister, Ruth Parks of South Lyon, MI and sister-in-law, Barbara Calvert. Bill moved to Charlotte in 1948 and graduated from Central High School in 1952. He was instrumental in setting up reunions and monthly luncheons for alumni and was designated lifetime reunion chairman. Bill attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and graduated from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Bill was a member of Myers Park Country Club for 44 years and served on its Board of Directors. Bill began his career with Merrill Lynch and retired with Smith Barney after 30 years in the brokerage business. He was a member of Central Church of God.
