Bill Porter of Indian Trail, NC passed away at his home on April 15, 2024. Mr.
Porter graduated from Hartsell High School where he was active in football,
basketball, and baseball. After high school he enlisted in the United States Air
Force and proudly served for over 23 years. He then worked for the State of
Arkansas until he retired.
He was an avid sports fan and loved to go to Arkansas Razorback games. He
followed his daughter all over the state to watch her play softball. After he
moved to North Carolina, he switched to watching his grandson and
granddaughter play soccer and basketball.
He dearly loved his family and his friends, and he never met a stranger. He was a
member of McGill Baptist church and worked the concession stand at the UNCC
basketball games and volunteered for their annual barbeques.
Mr. Porter was preceded in death by his parents (Monroe and Lillie Porter), three
brothers (Johnny, Tex, and Marvin Porter), three sisters (Mamie Beaver, Coleen
Lefler, and Faye Newell), and his son (Michael Porter).
He is survived by his wife of 70 years (Peggy), his daughter (Susan Porter), his
beloved grand dog (Punkin), his many nieces and nephews, his daughter-in-law,
his grandchildren, his great grandchild, his brother (Robert Porter), his family, his
extended family, and the best neighbors ever.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in his name to McGill Baptist Church or
St. Jude’s Childrens Hospital.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held on May 20th at 11am with visitation from 10-11am. Services will be conducted at Gaskin Funeral Service located at 14617 W Lawyers Road. Matthews NC 28104.
