William Vernon Wiley, Jr., 98, of Charlotte, died Saturday, March 29, 2014 at Lake Park Nursing Center in Indian Trail. Bill was born July 13, 1915, in Concord, NC, to the late William Vernon Wiley, Sr. and Anne Price Wiley. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by and infant sister, Mildred; his son, William Vernon Wiley, III; and his brother, James A. Wiley. Bill was a 1933 graduate of Derita High School and, until his retirement, owned the Charlotte Floormaster Company. He was a charter member of Belmont Park Methodist Church (now University City United Methodist Church) and was a current member of Amity Presbyterian Church. Bill "Paw" brought a blessing to everyone that had the good fortune to cross paths with him in life. His love of his kids, grandkids, great grandkids, and family was always on display. His love for his wife was a 74 year long love story that touched us all until the very end. We can all say we learned how to love, care, cry, and laugh from our time with Bill here on earth. We also feel good knowing he is now sharing those amazing traits with everyone in heaven and we look forward to seeing him again. Bill also had a passion for sports. He grew up being one of the best baseball players in the Charlotte area. "Mini Bruit", as he was called by his many friends, was an avid golfer and shared many great times with friends and family at Larkhaven Golf Course. He loved his Tarheels, the Atlanta Braves, and his Charlotte Checkers. He is survived by his wife of 74 years, Judy Biggs Wiley; his daughter, Judy McWhirter and her husband, James, of Mint Hill; his son, Gary and his wife, Wanda, of Indian Trail; grandchildren, Allison Danielsen and husband, Richard, of Matthews, Suzanne Jones and husband, Chuck, Kim Faulkner and husband, Tony, Jamie Wiley and wife, Amy, and Jason Wiley, all of Indian Trail; great grandchildren, Zachary and Clint Danielsen, Hunter and Austin Jones, Drew, Trent, and Grace Faulkner, Tyler and Payton Wiley; brother-in-law, Neil Biggs and wife, Claire; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Biggs; aunt, Sarah Mesiaszek; and many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations be made to Mint Hill Fire Department. The family would also like to thank the staff of Lake Park Nursing Center for the loving care given Bill during his time there. -
