Bob J. Maccubbin Sr.

June 25, 1930 — December 20, 2014

Robert J. Maccubbin, Sr, passed away December 20th surrounded by those who loved him dearly. We have lost a true gentleman, husband, Father, Grandfather and friend. He will be truly missed. Bob was born June 25, 1930 in Westfield, NJ to Harold and Frances Maccubbin. He spent his youth on Long Island and later attended Washington and Lee University where he met his true love, Connie Rogers, on a blind date. They married in 1953 and had 61 wonderful years together. His service to our country as a Navy pilot ended upon the death of his father-in-law in 1956. He left the Navy to join Curt L. Rogers Company where he would spend the next 36 years with his brother-in-law and partner, Curt Rogers, building Rogers-American Company into one of the most respected Food Brokerage companies in the US. Along the way Bob developed many lifelong friendships with his associates, customers and clients. He retired in 1993 leaving behind a legacy of patience, compassion and willingness to always lend a hand to those in need. God and family were always the center of his life. The love he shared for his wife, three children and seven grandchildren and extended family will be most remembered. We cherish many special memories of dinners at Nana's, family trips and countless family reunions at Ocean Isle Beach and The Farm in Linville. He was a Life Deacon at Myers Park Baptist Church where he taught Sunday school and was a member for over 50 years. He was also an avid golfer and loved to travel playing courses all over the world. He was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 2000 and lived the next ten years to the fullest. He spent the past 2 ½ years in Willowbrook Court at Plantation Estates medical unit where he and Connie received wonderful care, compassion and love from the entire staff. We would like to thank the staff for the comfort and love that he and Connie received on a daily basis during his illness. Bob is survived by his wife of 61 years, Connie Maccubbin, daughters Debbie Allison of Charlotte, Lynn Garton of Greensboro and son Rob Maccubbin and his wife Cason of Charlotte. Seven grandchildren, Cortney Addiar (Dustin), Casey and Conner Allison, Kris and Kelley Garton, Mac and Casey Maccubbin, sisters-in-law Betty McKee, Alice Rogers, Robin Rogers, Candy Rogers, brother-in-law Bill Rogers, Aunt Mable Davis and Sue, Harold and Ken Maccubbin. Memorials can be made to Myers Park Baptist Church, Salvation Army Women's Auxiliary and Friendship Trays. - -
