Brenda Canter Bruce

Brenda Canter Bruce, age 70, went home to Jesus on March 5, 2020. 

She was born on September 7, 1949 to Lillian Wike Canter (Childers) and Homer Waitsel Canter of Taylorsville, NC. She attended school and enjoyed her younger years living in Taylorsville, moving to Charlotte, NC after graduating from high school. She married James Douglas Bruce of Charlotte, NC and raised their three daughters there. 

Brenda was above all a loving mother, Nana, and friend to her daughters, grandchildren, and sons-in-law. She was happiest when spending time with them and was always willing to save the day, even in her later years. Whether it was patching skinned knees, taking last minute road trips, offering a listening ear, or one of her famous pecan pies, she always put family first. She enjoyed gardening, birds, and of course, a good watermelon.

Brenda most enjoyed her work with young children over the years and felt blessed to have had a part in their care and to watch them grow. She was a member of Rocky Face Baptist Church, Taylorsville in her younger years and then a member of Central Church of God in Charlotte. She was humbled by the prayers and love given by her church, friends, and family throughout her illness. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister Bobbi Pennell and her brother Danny Canter. Left to cherish her memory are her daughters Tina Ligon (Steve) of Charlotte NC, Tammy Maury (Jose) of Monroe NC, Terisa Suttle (Nathan) of Monroe NC, and grandchildren Jarrod Ligon and Rachel White. She is also survived by several Aunts and Uncles, Cousins, Nieces and Nephews.

A celebration of Brenda’s life and home-going will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Central Church of God, 5301 Sardis Road, Charlotte, NC 28270.
