Carla Nicole Johnston, affectionately known as Nicole, was born on July 13, 1977, in Florence, Alabama. She passed away peacefully on December 11, 2024, in Charlotte, North Carolina, leaving behind a legacy defined by kindness, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to her family and faith.
Nicole dedicated her entire working career to the Central Church of God, where she initially served in the maintenance department. She later found her true calling as a beloved preschool teacher at Central Weekday Preschool, where her nurturing spirit touched the lives of countless children. Her ability to see the good in everything and everyone was a unique gift that enhanced her interactions, creating a warm and welcoming environment for students and colleagues alike. Nicole's proudest accomplishment was sharing love wherever she went and changing the lives of every child she taught.
A graduate of East Mecklenburg High School, Nicole furthered her education at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, earning a Bachelor's degree in History with a minor in Art History. Her passion for learning and the arts was reflected in her many hobbies, which included reading, attending movies and Broadway shows, and supporting her nieces and nephews at their various events. She also found immense joy in teaching her students, which brought her great fulfillment.
Nicole was a woman of deep faith, embodying the spirit of Christianity through her selflessness and generosity. Her kind, caring personality resonated with those around her, making her a cherished family member and friend. She was devoted to her family and loved the Lord with all her heart.
She is survived by her loving parents, Jay and Glenda Johnston; her brother, Phillip Johnston (Janie); sisters, Miranda Young (Brad), Brittany Frazier (Jeremy), and Kaitlyn Korres (Aleko); her grandmother, Phyllis Johnston; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and her greatest loves, her nieces and nephews: Jadon, Zeke, Paul, Mason, Anna, Madi, Brynn, Jaxon, and Jensen Jay.
Nicole was predeceased by her grandparents Glenn and Lucy Burgess, her grandfather James Johnston Sr., and her great-grandparents Blue and Lola Monroe.
A Celebration of Life will be held on December 17, 2024, at Central Church located at 5301 Sardis Rd., Charlotte, NC 28270, from 4:00 PM until 5:00 PM, where family, friends, and those whose lives she touched are invited to gather to honor her memory and celebrate her remarkable life. Nicole's spirit will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who knew and loved her, and her dedication to family and community will never be forgotten.
