Christopher "Chris" Forrest Hawkins

March 17, 1951 — October 24, 2011

Christopher "Chris' Forrest Hawkins, 60, of Charlotte, passed away Monday morning, October 24, 2011. Chris Hawkins was a loving, gentle husband, son, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. His life was a life of incredible love and care for others. His greatest passion was to be able to minister to others. Like his Master before him, he was a true fisher of men. He had a kind, sweet spirit that made it difficult for him to hold a grudge against anyone. His desire was to honor God in everything he said and did. He was an incredible craftsman and builder-- a man of many talents. Whistling, playing the guitar, spending time with his grandchildren and family, and riding his motorcycle gave him particular happiness. After his passing, his thirteen-year-old grandson Adam said that he felt he had heard Granddad's voice saying the following to him: "Adam, I don't want you or anyone to be upset. I love you all very much, and I miss you. I am very sorry that I had to go. I just needed to be in the place that could help me the most. Pray for Grandma and your mom and Aunt Christi for me. I love you and Austin buddy, Ryan, Seth, and Brooke." We, his family, choose to believe that children don't just make those things up! Chris' immediate family includes his wife, Jackie Hawkins, of Charlotte; his two daughters, Christi Schirack, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, and Destiny Alesch, of Jacksonville, Florida; four brothers, Mark, Dan, Joe, and Ben Hawkins; two sisters, Betty Green, and Pam Luton; five grandchildren. "The Great Speckled Bird" What a beautiful thought I am thinking Concerning the great speckled bird Remember her name is recorded On the pages of God's Holy Word Desiring to lower her standard They watch every move that she They long to find fault with her teachings But really they find no mistake I am glad I have learned of her meekness I am proud that my name is on her book For I want to be one never fearing The face of my Savior When He cometh descending from heaven On the cloud that He writes in His word I'll be joyfully carried to meet Him On the wings of that great speckled bird. from Jeremiah 12:9 -
