Crist Mark Cooley was born on April 23, 1958 in Erie, PA to the loving union of Gentle Jasper Cooley and Mattie Lee Woodard Cooley. He left his earthly body to be with the Lord on March 10, 2019. He was a beloved brother, husband, father, grandfather, friend, and a man of God.
Crist excelled in sports as a young man. He loved baseball and wrestling, winning the All-State wrestling championship while attending Erie Technical High School in 1976 and went on to attend Arizona State University on a baseball scholarship.
He developed a strong work ethic early in life by working with his father and brothers in the family business. He continued that work ethic when he joined the Unites States Army in 1982 & met his wife Rosie Brown in 1988 while stationed in Fort Monmouth, NJ. Crist & Rosie married on July 13, 1989 and would have celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary this summer. Crist Cooley served his country in the military for nearly 8 years & was honorably discharged as a Sergeant in September 1989. As the father of two young daughters Crist chose to change the course of his career and returned to school to further his education where he earned an Associates in Applied Science Degree in Telecommunications Management from Devry Institute. Crist was a dedicated family man and was committed to helping find a cure for his wife's Lyme Disease, whether it was through his own research, personal fundraising efforts and even traveling as far as the Cleveland clinic seeking treatment.
Both of his parents preceded him in death. Crist will be deeply missed by his six siblings, Bettie Hilton, Gentle Cooley, Russell Cooley, Craig Cooley, Larry Jones, and John Chapman. His life will be celebrated by his Aunt Johnie Ree Campbell and Uncle Cecil Woodard. He leaves to cherish his memory and praise God for his life, his wife Rosie Brown-Cooley, their children Charlene Cooley and Janiece DeFreitas, his son - in-law Nathan DeFreitas, granddaughter Kylie Lewis, and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
