Darlene Hancock Price, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, peacefully departed this world on January 9, 2025, in her home in Monroe, North Carolina. Born on December 15, 1950, in Delaware, Darlene lived a life marked by love, warmth, and unwavering faith.
Darlene was a devoted family matriarch. She took immense pride in her role as a mother to her daughters, Gini Wilson (Michael) and Donna Haigler (Todd), and a fun and loving grandmother to her grandchildren Michaela and Madi Wilson, and Hailey and Bryson Haigler. She is survived by her daughters and grandchildren, as well as her siblings, Becky Kramis, Frankie (Lisa) Hancock, and Phillip (Amy) Hancock; and many friends who will carry her memory in their hearts. Darlene was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 41 years, Donald Winchester Price, and her brother, Daryl Hancock. Their spirits will surely welcome her with open arms.
She imparted her wisdom upon her grandchildren and made them into the adults they are today, teaching each grandchild to swim, read, and write while instilling in them a love for reading that would last a lifetime. Our grandmother's home was filled with laughter, snacks, and the warm embrace of a grandmother who always made sure her family felt cherished and knew there was always a bed open for them. Darlene’s proudest accomplishment was her family. She raised her children with dedication, enveloping her home in love and laughter, and was affectionately described as a "surrogate mom" by a close friend, reflecting the warmth and openness that characterized her relationships.
Darlene's spirituality was an integral part of her life. A prayer warrior, she dedicated herself to nurturing the faith of everyone around her, ensuring that those she loved had a relationship with God. This commitment to a life of prayer and devotion reflected her deep care for her family and friends. Her creative spirit shone through in her hobbies. Darlene found joy in working in her garden, tending to her plants and flowers with love, and she was talented in painting and playing guitar. For many years, Darlene worked as a hairdresser, a career where her clients were fortunate to experience not just her expertise but also her genuine friendship, which created an atmosphere of trust and comfort in her chair.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at Love Baptist Church located at 707 Deese Road in Monroe, North Carolina. Visitation will begin on January 12, 2025, at 1:30 PM, followed by a funeral service at 2:30 PM.
Darlene Hancock Price leaves behind a legacy filled with love, laughter, and a profound sense of family that will resonate through the generations. Her spirit lives on in the hearts of those she touched, and she will be deeply missed.
