David Wilson

April 19, 1940 — March 24, 2015

Richard David Wilson, 74, of Charlotte, went Home March 24, 2015. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Shelly Wilson; children, Laith Wilson and wife, Kathleen, Coreen Bookout and husband, Allan, and Raeleen Wilson and husband Chris Tullar; grandchildren, Erica and Makayla. David was born in Detroit the sixth of seven children and grew up under modest conditions. He and Shelly attended Cody High School together and met at a birthday party for Shelly's good friend Shirley. David was invited by Shirley's boyfriend Dave, and the four of them have remained friends over the decades. The young couple were married February 11,1961. They were blessed with three lovely children. Their son Laith was the first born, followed 17 months later by their daughter Coreen. Ten years later they were surprised by the blessing of their third child, a daughter Raeleen. The family lived in the Detroit area until March of 1971, when David accepted a job in Toledo Ohio. They lived in Toledo until June 1974, when they relocated to Charlotte, NC. David attended Walsh School of Accounting. He worked three jobs in their early marriage to provide for his family. He eventually worked his way up from basic accounting to Credit Manager, which he really enjoyed. He always had a strong work ethic. In his retirement he found joy in delivering pizzas. He called himself "The Hawk", and loved all the people he met and relationships he formed at the job. David enjoyed many activities. As a young man he loved playing tennis and was famous for his undercuts and serves in table tennis. His favorite passion was golf, both playing and watching. Like the old golfers joke, Dave shot in the 70's; any hotter than that he stayed in the club house and had a beer. He and Shelly enjoyed their bridge and pinochle groups. They have always loved going to the movies. They loved to challenge each other during the TV game shows-he marveled in how Shelly would always beat him. David participated in the Indian Princesses with Raeleen when she was young, and in later years he enjoyed watching his granddaughters in their activities, such as cheering Erica on as she ran her meet at McAlpine Park. David will be remembered as a friendly, humorous, and optimistic person. He endured many challenges without complaint, including being a two-time cancer survivor and his recent illness to which he finally succumbed on March 24, 2015. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Christ Lutheran Church.
