Declan Shaw O'Neil, a beloved son, brother, and friend, passed away on September 23, 2024 after a courageous battle with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, a complex and difficult heart condition. Declan was born on January 17, 2015, and from an early age, his remarkable kindness and compassion for others shone brightly along with a strong curiosity to learn more about the world around him every day.
As a 4th grader at Porter Ridge Elementary, Declan embodied a spirit of generosity, often prioritizing the needs of others over his own. He was known for his warm demeanor, friendly nature, and the deep love he shared with those around him. Declan is survived by siblings, Brielle O'Neil, who was both his sister and his best friend, Evan Shaw, Malachi O’Neil, Aria O’Neil, and Finn Oktavec. His mother Amanda Shaw and his father Matthew O’Neil, step-mother Kate Wilson and step-father Michael Oktavec.
Declan found deep interests in story telling interactive games, especially a deep affinity for The Legend of Zelda, activities that sparked his imagination and creativity while also allowing him to connect with friends. He enjoyed swimming, going to the park, reading graphic novels, and listening to music, particularly dubstep. His dedication to accomplishing new heights was evident as he was nearly at the next belt level with Code Ninjas, showcasing his enthusiasm for learning and growth.
Declan's compassion was truly extraordinary; he had a natural ability to care for others, and it was this quality that made him so special to those who knew him. The memories of Declan's sweet nature and loving heart will forever resonate within the lives he touched.
