WESLEY CHAPEL - Mr. Donald Burnette, 74, peacefully passed away and entered fully into the presence of the Lord on Saturday, February 18, 2023, surrounded by his wife and children and their families.
Donald, fondly known as Don or Donnie (PaPaw to his grandchildren), was born to Hoyle and Sadie Burnette, on October 6, 1948 in Mint Hill, North Carolina. He was a handsome and charming young christian man, who devoted his life to God and grew to be a talented athlete that loved playing sports and driving fast cars. After graduating high school, Donald joined the military and proudly served his country during the Vietnam War, one of his greatest accomplishments. On September 28, 1985, he was fortunate to marry the woman of his dreams, resulting in a 43 year companionship, 38 of which were married and establishing a large, loving family. Donald held many titles in his life, but his favorite role was being a husband and father. He loved nothing more than spending time with his wife and children and, over the last 9 years, his grandchildren. Donald did his best to always be there for anyone who needed him, whether he was cheering them on from the stands or giving advice on how to be a good person in an often confusing world.
He fought hard in his battle against cancer, on and off, for five long years. Despite some setbacks and many unexpected life adjustments, he never lost his love for the Lord, his family or his goofy sense of humor. Throughout his entire journey, he cracked jokes with his children, made silly faces with his grandchildren and even remained his charming self with the nurses, who helped care for him in his final days. He had a great ability to make others smile and his warmth and sense of humor will be missed. Donald's faith was an essential part of his life. He was a faithful man who loved the Lord, his family and community.
Donald is survived by his wife, Jennifer; six children, Ethan, Alex, Ariel, Erin, Abby and Anna; and by his grandchildren, Barrett, Aubrie, Sadie, Mackenzie, Jamison, Lily and Evie.
Donald’s family will host a funeral service 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 25, 2023 at New Covenant Baptist Church, 5114 Rogers Road, Monroe, NC 28110.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the GoFundMe in Donald's name to support the family during this time (details available upon request).
