Donald Jackson "Papaw" Martin

Donald Jackson "Papaw" Martin, 85, of Charlotte, while surrounded by his loving and caring family, went to meet his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Friday morning, June 1, 2012, Don was born and raised in Charlotte. In 1951, he married his loving and caring wife of 61 years, Jewel Brown Martin. Their children are also natives and residents of Charlotte, Sandra Martin Kennerly, and her husband, Jim, Janice Martin Wilson, and her husband, Ray, and Kenneth Eugene Martin, and his wife Diane. Additional immediate family members include six grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and his sisters, Rachael Dulin and Virginia Russell. In 1985, after forty years of service, Don retired from the City of Charlotte, Street Maintenance Division. However, throughout his career and retirement, the joy of his life was unmistakably his wife, Jewel, and family. Don was known lovingly by his family and friends as the true "fix-it man". From major repairs to toys, if there was ever a question about repair, the grandchildren would quickly let you know "papaw can fix it! ". A true man of God, Don had a servant's heart. Untold lives have been changed through the years by his generosity and sensitivity to the needs of others. **In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorial contributions be made to the Central Church of God Mission's Fund or Presbyterian Hospice and Palliative Care.
