Doris Tant Fickling, 90, of Charlotte, lived a long, loving life and went to be with the Lord Monday, November 7, 2011. She was born October 12, 1921, in Phoenix City, AL, and was raised in Bainbridge, GA. Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Waylon Fickling, and son, Marvis Harris; her parents, Hezekiah and Mary Inez Boatright Tant of Bainbridge, Georgia; brothers, Horris (her infant twin), and Buddy Tant of Albertville, Alabama; her sisters, Anne Laura Richardson, of Winston Salem, North Carolina, and Mary Pearl Benefield of Chattanooga, Tennessee. Mrs. Fickling retired as a Sales Consultant for Dynamics Corporation of America, in the Waring Products Division, where she managed blender demonstrations, clinics, and promotions. She worked directly with each local newspaper, food editors, along with TV promotions, covering several southern states. One of her fondest experiences was conducting a clinic with Mrs. Betty Freezer of WBTV in Charlotte. Doris was the "Julia Child of Waring Products" and created many delicious recipes for the blender and food processor products of the day. She was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church, Charlotte, where she taught Sunday School, Training Union, and volunteered in many capacities. Her life was lived loving the Lord, her family, and friends; where she was generous in all regards. She cherished her long and dear friendships and she found great joy in cooking and serving delicious meals and deserts when they, and family, visited her. She also loved to work in her garden where she always had a beautiful display of flowers to enjoy. With a sharp mind, and keen whit, she would cause laughter, and correction, at a moment's notice. Her life was lived with dignity and a love of the Lord that she shared everywhere she went in which her family will be forever thankful for the example she gave them. Her immediate family includes her twin daughters, Nancy Warren, and her husband, Walter, of Tulsa, OK, and Joyce Brown, and her husband, Charlie, of Matthews; her brother, Sam Tant, of Fort Myers, FL; daughter-in-law, Suzanne Harris, wife of the late Marvis Harris; grandchildren, Bobby Harris, Jimmy Harris (Monica), Ginger Harris Johnson, Mark Caudell (Angela), Crissy Buie, Shaun Brown, Mandy Brown Ziegler (Eric), and Chuck Utley; great grandchildren, Justice Caudell, Ryder Caudell, Morgan Caudell, Brittany Buie, Haley Buie, Christian Johnson, Joshua Johnson, McKinzie Johnson, and Kiernan Utley; and her closest friend of many years, and our "adopted Aunt", Sarah Stroupe, of Charlotte. -
