Connie Lindner Melvin, of Charlotte, born August 2, 1951, passed away Wednesday, March 14, after a courageous battle with cancer. Connie was a loving wife, mother, sister, and aunt who will be greatly missed. After growing up in Comfort, TX she graduated from Texas Tech University. She then moved to North Carolina and earned her Master's and Doctorate Degrees from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Public Health. She became an avid Tar Heel basketball fan and met her future husband. Connie worked for the Texas State Health Services in Austin, the Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta, as a Professor at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, and finally with her husband in his psychiatric practice in Charlotte. Connie was an accomplished pianist and instilled in her children the love of music. Her service to her community and her Lutheran faith earned her many friends who valued her devotion. She will be missed for her beauty, selflessness, concern for others, generosity, faith, intelligence, and wit. She is survived by her husband Jean Allen Melvin, son Eric Austin Melvin, and daughters Claire Rebecca Melvin and Anna Marion Melvin. Also surviving are her mother Flo Lindner, sisters Marian (Joe) Willenborg and Dorothy (Louis) Schorp, brother Patrick (Dottie) Lindner, sisters-in-law Maureen Keller and Janice (Jim) Fowler, brother-in-law Edward (Sherry) Melvin and a host of nephews and great-nephews from Texas, Colorado, and North Carolina. In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested that memorial contributions in Connie's name be made to the Christ Lutheran Church Building Fund.
