Dr. James Paul Wooten II, 83, of Monroe, NC passed away on August 13th, 2020 at his home surrounded by family. James was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee on June 10, 1937 to the late James Wooten Sr. and Mildred Webb. James graduated from Ypslanti High in 1956, then he entered the United States Marine Corp. After his service, he went on to receive a BA in Business and Accounting from Brooklyn College, a MA in Sociology from Long Island University and a PHD in Urban Planning from Columbia University.
Dr. Wooten, was a professor, businessman, public speaker, author and community organizer. His interest included traveling, African American studies, his stock investment club and poetry. Dr. James P. Wooten II is preceded in death by his one Victor Wooten, son by marriage Charles A Smith, sisters Helen Wooten, Georgette Bow and brother Sonny Burgess. He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife Gwenavere Wooten, son James P. Wooten III (Veda) daughter Lateefah Daniel (Erric) other children Jayne Riggs, Sheryl Davis (Herman). Jerome Smith (Arlene) and sister Jesica Wright, 22 grandchildren, 23 great- grandchildren and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
