Dr. Ross Rhoads, 84, entered the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Wednesday morning, May 24, 2017. Ross S. Rhoads, BA, MA, MS, DD, was the chaplain for the Billy Graham Association and the Franklin Graham ministries. He served as vice chairman on the Board of Directors of Samaritan's Purse and World Medical Mission. Dr. Rhoads and his wife, Carol, have been the National Representatives of Operation Christmas Child, an international project of Samaritan's Purse. Dr. Rhoads attended Pennsylvania Military Academy. He received the President's medal and graduated as the most outstanding cadet, having the highest rank and honors. He graduated from the Philadelphia College of the Bible and Wheaton College, Wheaton, Illinois. He also studied at Wheaton Graduate School, and received his Masters degree from Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, California. He received a Master of Science Degree from National Lewis University in Evanston, Illinois, and a Doctor of Divinity Degree from Greenville College, Greenville, Illinois. He appeared for three years on a nationwide television program, "Youth on the March". For fifteen years, Dr. Rhoads conducted over two hundred evangelistic crusades. He was the associate of the late Dr. Charles E. Fuller, and the featured speaker on the nationwide radio broadcast, "The Old Fashioned Revival Hour". Dr. Rhoads pastored for twenty-two years at Calvary Church in Charlotte, North Carolina. Under his leadership, Calvary Church grew from 125 to 3,600 members. The church began a full time counseling center, a Crisis Pregnancy Center, a child development center, concert series, outreach banquet ministries, and annual conferences. For more than twenty-five years, Dr. Rhoads had a radio program entitled "Something to Think About," which aired twice daily. His printed commentary was a daily feature in the Charlotte News. He is the author of four books The Power to Cope, Hope for Tomorrow, Personal Evangelism, and a devotional book, All for Jesus. In 1992 Dr. Rhoads founded Southern Evangelical Seminary in Charlotte, North Carolina. He called Dr. Norman Geisler, PhD, to serve as the first Dean. It was Dr. Rhoads' vision and purpose to unite the highest academic disciplines and evangelism. The seminary provides practical training in apologetics and church centered ministries. Dr. and Mrs. Rhoads have made their home in Charlotte. Carol is an accomplished pianist, a contributing author, and coordinator of group study tours to Israel and Europe. They have one married daughter, two married sons in the ministry, and eleven grandchildren.
