Edwin D. George of Indian Trail will be joining his wife Allyne Burns George in heaven; along with his father Milledge Holley George, mother Pearl Coward George, brothers Ellis, Carl, Mel, sisters Josephine Kelly, Martha Smallwood, and Gewndolyn Terry. He is survived by his younger brother Leon(Betty), son Raymond George and daughter Grace George Stanley, grandsons Michael(Allyson), Andrew, and Patrick Stanley(Alexandra) and his great granddaughter Harper Marie who will be born in March.
Edwin was born and raised in Columbia, SC before moving to Charlotte in 1956. He was attending the University of South Carolina when he signed up to serve in the United States Navy. He worked as a Naval Logistics Aviator Specialist during World War II (3 years) and called back during the Korean War (2 years). He was a member of the American Legion post 0458 in Indian Trail. After 33 years Edwin retired from EXXON Corporation as Administration Supervisor of Marketing and Assistant Secretary of EXXON corporation, USA Southeastern Region. After retirement from EXXON, he worked with Charlotte Mecklenburg schools for 5 years. Edwin was a 32 degree Mason and a Shriner. He served on many city and county projects while living in Charlotte, as well as volunteered with Novant Health and The Atrium hospitals. Edwin was a member of First Baptist Church, Charlotte for thirty-four years. Sardis Baptist and at his death Shiloh Baptist. He was active in each church from working in the nursery to the chairman of the Board of Deacons.
In his earlier years he played Minor League Baseball and later enjoyed trips around the world with his wife. He was an avid golfer and gardener. Edwin was devoted to the EXXON Mobile Annuitant Club where he served as President for many years. Recently due to his illness he was very appreciative to Doug Lucas(Lucas Lawn and Landscaping) for tending to his yard, Hospice of Union County, and the numerous friends and family members that called to check on him, visited, or sent cards.
