On Thursday, May 17, 2018, at 10 am, Fred Niehoff went to be with his Heavenly Father. He was born in Chicago, Illinois, on June 13, 1940, to Mr. & Mrs Clement Niehoff. He attended: Smyster Grade school From 1945 to 1954, North Park Academy From 1954 to 1958, Bloom Junior College From 1958 to 1960, Univ. of Illinois Inst. of Aviation. From 1960 to 1962. From 1962-1964 he instructed as a civilian flight instructor for the US Air Force and Army. In 1963, he joined Wycliffe Bible Translators and the following year on April 18th in Portland, Maine; Fred married his bride of 54 years, Linda Sprague. In 2013, Fred retired after humbly serving his Lord and Savior, for over 50 years as a missionary with Wycliffe Bible Translators. Fred was a certified Airline Transport Pilot and an aviation mechanic/inspector. He flew most of the Amazon jungle area as a"bush" pilot for more than 20 years in a variety of aircraft. Fred is survived by his wife, Linda Niehoff; sister, Gertrude Niehoff; brother, John Niehoff; daughter, Sara Niehoff; daughter, Heidi Barkman and son-in-law, Keith Barkman; son, Eric Niehoff and daughter-in-law, Viviane Niehoff; son, Paul Niehoff and daughter-in-law Heather Niehoff; grandson Tim Barkman; granddaughters: Hanna Barkman, Brianna and Ashleigh Niehoff; and Brendan Niehoff who was awaiting his grandpa, Fred, in heaven. Continuing with his simplistic lifestyle, Fred has requested that his burial at the Waxhaw cemetery be attended by only his immediate family, their siblings, and spouses; however ALL are invited to participate in his memorial service, which will be held on Monday, May 21, 2018.
