Gene McKinney

Eugene(Gene) B. McKinney, 86 of Monroe, NC went home to be with the Lord on 4/18/2018. He is preceded in death by his father Baxter McKinney, his mother Laura J. McKinney and two sisters Maydean McCall and Doris Huss, and step daughter, Kelly. He is survived by his wife Linda McKinney; daughters Debbie Sweeney and Teresa Hillenbrand; step daughter, Paige; one son David McKinney; seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Gene was born November 27, 1931 in Charlotte, NC. The family worked and lived on a dairy farm. Gene even worked on the Rev. Billy Graham's father's farm for a time. He always spoke fondly of that time in his life. He worked on and off for the old Southern Bakery in Charlotte before moving to Atlanta Georgia. He continued working in the bakery business going from delivery driver to one of the top salesmen for the Colonial Baking Company. Even after his retirement from Colonial he worked for Kroger for a number of years. He loved baseball. Gene had been a batboy for the old Charlotte Hornets baseball team. When he moved to Atlanta he became a big fan of the Braves.The Braves were one of his clients and he nurtured many friendships with players and management as well. He enjoyed the beach, hot dogs, good tomatoes, fresh corn and fishing. Gene just enjoyed life. -
