Gertrude Verma Murphy, 97, was welcomed into the loving arms of Jesus Tuesday July 9th in Waxhaw, NC. Born December 26, 1921 in Pittsburgh PA, she lived a life that honored the Lord. Gertrude and her husband Bob joined Wycliffe Bible Translators in 1969 and served in several locations including Waxhaw, NC and Cochabamba, Bolivia where Gertrude worked as a secretary and helped type the manuscripts for a Bolivian translation of the Bible.
Her interests included traveling, making quilts and playing games. She was a devoted wife and mother serving her husband and family much like the virtuous woman described in Proverbs 31.
Gertrude was preceded by her husband of 69 years, Robert Alan Murphy. She is survived by her son Daniel Robert Murphy of Waxhaw, NC, son Timothy Alan Murphy (Lee Ann) of Fort Mill, SC, daughter Tamara Sue Murphy of Seattle, WA, six grandchildren James Murphy (Margaret), Becky Crognale (Richard), Jane Dorler (Mark), Benjamin Murphy (Sara), Brian Murphy (Joy), Neely Potts (Ben) and his 15 great-grandchildren.
A graveside services will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, July 12th, Waxhaw Cemetery.
