Grace George Stanley of Indian Trail formerly of Charlotte has gone to be with the Lord. She is preceded in death by her father (Ed George) mother (Allyne George) husband (Rob Stanley), daughter (Pearl Stanley)
She is survived by her son, Patrick Stanley (wife Annie) granddaughter Harper Stanley, and 3 step daughters Ginger Catoe (Mikey), Miriam (Scott), and Anna, her brother Raymond George (Donna). Nephews Michael George (Allyson) and Andrew George, Godson Sebastian Conception.
Grace graduated from Olympic High School, Lee's McRae College, and UNC-Charlotte. She also attended Queens College, University of South Carolina, and the University of Alabama. She retired from teaching after 32+ years, but continued working with children up to her death.
She changed the lives of countless children in Lancaster, Mecklenburg and Union County. She received recognition as a Safe Schools Site Assessment Team Member, Protecting Kids from Drugs and Violence, and Street Gangs, We Can Work It Out, Making Peace, NC Mediators, Developing Safe Schools, Managing Kids at Risk, School Resource Officer, and an instructor for the Crisis Prevention Institute. She served as vice-president for many years with Student Against Violence Everywhere, which she started for the elementary and middle school level, and the Board of Directors for the Union County Crime Prevention Committee for 14 years, and a Sunday School teacher. She was Miss Teenage Charlotte, and runner up for Miss North Carolina World. One of her greatest accomplishments was carrying the Olympic Torch after 9-11.
Grace loved her son with all her heart and soul. Nothing Patrick would say or do would surprise her, because he was so much like her. Grace enjoyed spending time with her son, watching him play sports when he was younger, The University of Alabama football, country music, making her much loved sweet tea, and her southern heritage. She love watching Harper grow-up and adored her step mother, Annie. She loved fresh flowers, cooking, and working outside. She was a true southern lady and people would often comment about her southern drawl.
A funeral service will be held at Hopewell Baptist Church at on July 6th, 2023 at 11:00 am. The family will greet friends one hour prior beginning at 10:00 am.
Interment will be at Sharon Memorial Park, Charlotte, NC. Memorials may be sent to Hopewell Baptist Church.
