Harold W. ("Hal") Singer, 89, of Charlotte, passed away on February 16, 2011. He was born in 1921, in Albany, New York, to Mr. and Mrs. Charles Singer, who preceded him in death, as did sisters Connie and Hazel. Hal was blessed to be married to two wonderful women, each for thirty-two years, who also precede him in death: Delores ("Del") Galonian, and Carolyn Lyon Renninger. Hal served as a Naval Officer aboard a destroyer escort in the Pacific during WWII. After graduating from Renssalaer Polytechnic Institute, he worked for Merck and Company for over thirty years as a chemical engineer/ plant manager in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Hal lived most of his working life in the Susquehanna Valley of Pennsylvania, where he loved playing golf. After retiring, Hal and Carolyn moved to Greensboro, NC, and later to Lynchburg, VA. Last September, Hal moved to Charlotte, NC. Left to cherish his memory are his children and step-children, all of whom shared a special place in his heart: Dale Anne Shaffchick of Sunbury PA, Dave Singer and his wife Barb of Charlotte, NC; Lin Renninger of San Francisco CA, Jo Silvers and her husband Skip of Danville VA, Carl Renninger of Altamonte Springs, FL; Lou Renninger and her husband Lou Herr of Paxinos PA, and Mark Renninger and his wife Val of Lynchburg, VA. Hal was also blessed with thirteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at a later date in Pennsylvania.
