Harry Franklin Cook, fondly known as "Cookie," passed away on May 15, 2024 in Charlotte, North Carolina. He was born on June14, 1945, in Johnson City, Tennessee.
Harry led a remarkable life filled with service and kindness. After graduating from Science Hill High School, he went on attend East Tennessee State University. Harry's commitment to serving his country led him to join the US Navy, where he received several accolades for his dedication, including the National Defense Service Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, Vietnamese Service Medal, and Vietnamese Campaign Medal.
Known for his kind and welcoming nature, Harry had a great quiet sense of humor that never failed to bring smiles to those around him. His hobbies included gardening and spending peaceful moments sitting on the porch in his rocking chair. Harry was faithfully involved in his church and loved serving the Lord. He was very loved by his greater years senior group.
One of Harry's proudest accomplishments was volunteering regularly during his retirement years. He selflessly devoted his time to working with numerous hospitals, doctors, and tax firms, making a positive impact on the lives of many.
Harry will be dearly missed by his surviving family and friends. He is survived by his loving wife Grace Cook; devoted children Kelly Gomes (and husband Albert), Harry Curtis Cook, David Ratzloff (and wife Margarete), Daniel Ratzloff (and wife Jennifer), John Ratzloff; caring brothers Finley Cook (and wife Judy), Criss Cook (and wife Marti); cherished grandchildren Erin, Logan, Sophie, Seth, Tucker, Lane, Savannah, Bailey, Samantha, Hlena, Kylah, Kiera, Joy, Jack; and beloved great-grandchildren Caevin, Laeton, Eleanor, Presley.
In honor of Harry's memory and the impact he had on those around him, a Visitation will be held at the Greater Life Church in Matthews on May 29th from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM followed by a Celebration of Life service from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM. The address for the church is 3821 Matthews Mint Hill Road in Matthews. In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made to Niswonger Children's Hospital, 400 N State of Franklin Road. Harry's legacy of kindness and service will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him. May he rest in peace.
