Haskell Mark Wooten, 63, passed away on Monday February 28th 2022.
From childhood, Mark’s hobbies included fishing, racing of all kinds, coin collecting, and drawing cartoons. Some of his fondest memories were made in Briarwood Acres with his brother Phil.
Mark came from a long line of carpenters, do-it-yourselfers, singers and musicians; naturally he was charming, very funny, welcoming and believed in the power of a firm handshake, a pat on the back and looking someone in the eye.
Mark wore many hats in his lifetime and served as a prison guard for Monroe Prison Camp, security officer with Securitas Inc., as well as a residential painter. Other places of employment included Tucker Lumber, JoAnne Narrow Fabrics and Cook Out of Monroe.
April Grace the oldest granddaughter wrote this for her admissions essay for Appalachian state. From the time I took my own first steps, I was enthralled by the amazing creatures this world has to offer. Every bug, squirrel, and frog was my best friend, and each one was named
accordingly. I was taught the art of safely capturing lizards and butterflies by my grandfather; told."we always let them go." Protector of butterflies, keeper of lizards, he equipped me with a type of love I would learn to use for the rest of my life. A love that never faded, and only grew
stronger. Yet, it took me years to understand that it all began with him and I going on an "expedition" in our very own backyard.
He loved being outside with his grandkids, good food, anything sweet (especially homemade), reminiscing on the good old days, wild west movies, ghost stories and being in nature.
Mark is survived by mother Nancy; brother Phillip (Patti), wife Patsy, children Caleb, Rachel and Jennifer and grandchildren, April, Katie, Christopher, Emerson and Levi (grandchildren)
Mark is proceeded in death by father; Haskell, and son in law Curtis Hubbard.
