Henry Eason Barnes was born June 15th, 2006 in Charlotte, North Carolina. He was 15 years old and a sophomore at Carmel Christian School. Henry is survived by his parents, Jonathan Scott and Dawn Gordon Barnes and his brothers, Luke Gordon Foy and Jonah Andrews Barnes, his grandparents, Judy (Sassy) Eason and Mitchell (Paca) Foy Barnes and many loving cousins, aunts, and uncles.
Henry lived in Charlotte until 2013 when the family moved to Chapin, SC. He attended Lake Murray Elementary School and Chapin Intermediate School. Henry loved his time in South Carolina and often said he could not wait to move back to the area once he was older. His time in Chapin was spent with many neighborhood friends, school buddies, and loving teachers. In 2017, his family moved back to Charlotte, NC and he returned to Carmel Christian School where he has been since. He was a member of Carmel Baptist Church.
For the last year and a half, Henry struggled with the eatingdisorder called Anorexia Nervosa. He worked very hard to overcome this incredibly difficult illness. We are indebted to those who came alongside him throughout this journey with support, prayers, counsel, and unconditional love. We are sounbelievably grateful.
Henry was a member of the Varsity Cross-Country team, aNational Jr. Honor Society member, Project Lighthousemember, a straight-A honor student and a lifelong member of the Barnes Family Travelling Circus.
Henry is most known for his incredible smile and warm spirit. He had a way about him that was authentic, and his laughter was intoxicating. Henry loved Jesus and recently recommitted his life to Christ at Windy Gap. While his absence on this earth leaves us in grief, as Christians, we know we will see that sweet smile again. He will be remembered for many things, but mostly for being a loving son and brother, an amazing friend, Quizlet Master, Trivia king, competitive board game and miniature golf player, veracious Bible reader, artist and art lover, a natural runner, and a lover of movies and the Simpsons. Henry loved to travel and was always up for a great adventure.
Henry loved leaving daily words of encouragement and support for his family all over the house. He would encourage you all to do the same for the ones you love and for yourself.
Henry’s presence on this earth is already missed and he will be missed for decades to come.
In lieu of flowers the family asks donations to be made to the “Henry Barnes Memorial Fund”. Gifts given to the Carmel Education Foundation in “Memory of Henry Barnes” will support CCS's Project Lighthouse mental health awareness club and counseling support for students.
