Ingeborg Karoline Luisa Mueller Czerny, affectionately known as Inge, passed away suddenly after a brief illness on July 19, 2021.
Inge came to the United States from Germany as the young bride of Winn W. Czerny in 1960. Together Inge and Winn started their life in Salt Lake City, Utah where their two children were born. They made multiple moves over their lifetime together including to California and Pennsylvania as well as several to Europe. Inge was an avid tennis player all her life long and her love for the game never waned. Her tennis friends and colleagues held a special place in her heart. She was a bold, courageous, and passionate woman who was loved by many. Inge had an innate sense of style and fashion and was known for her beauty and charm. She was a passionate supporter of equal rights and often advocated for the oppressed. She touched the lives of many in small, quiet ways through simple acts of kindness and charity.
Inge is survived by her husband of 62 years, Winn W. Czerny; their two children, Astra B. Czerny and Ruben Czerny; and by their three grandchildren, Emily Worsham (Justin), Michael Dibble, and Becca Czerny. She is also survived by her only sister, Gisela Marenbach who lives in Germany, as well as many in-laws, tennis partners, and friends.
Inge supported and was an active member of the Senior Scholars of Charlotte and the Retired Couple’s Club of Charlotte.
The Czerny family would like to thank the Intensive Care Unit and the Hospice nurses at Novant Hospital in Matthews, NC, for making Inge’s final days and hours as pain-free and comfortable as possible.
