Jack Eugene Harbaugh was born January 3, 1926 in South Bend, Indiana but grew up in Petoskey, Michigan. The youngest of five children, Jack distinguished himself by excelling in sports. After a short stint in the Navy toward the end of WWII, Jack attended the University of Michigan where he played football and graduated with a degree in Public Communications. While in Ann Arbor, Jack met his wife of 61 years, Tricia, and started his career at Gulf Oil Corporation. During his 30 plus years at Gulf, Jack took on increasing responsibilities and established himself as a well respected senior executive. Jack's career took him and his family, which by then included three young children, around the world including stops in multiple countries in Latin America and Asia. Once Jack retired, he and Tricia moved to The Landings on Skidaway Island in Savannah, Georgia to play golf and be active members of the community. They moved to Charlotte, North Carolina in 2001 and became residents of The Cypress of Charlotte in 2006. Jack was known for his sense of humor, his devotion to his family and his love of Michigan football. He enjoyed sharing stories of his travels around the world and taking part in lively discussions about business, politics and sports. He was also passionate about mentoring young people, and generously gave his time and energy to this calling. Jack died peacefully on September 6th and is survived by his three children, Jill Neffke, Jack Harbaugh, Jr., and Jan Bodyk, his five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
