James Edward Carter, Sr.

April 21, 1927 — September 2, 2010

James Edward (Bud) Carter, Sr., 83, of Charlotte, went to be with the Lord following a long battle with Parkinson's disease Thursday evening, September 2, 2010. Bud was born and raised in Greenville, SC. Following graduation from Welcome High School in 1945, he entered the U.S. Navy. After his return from service, he went to work for his father in the "used car business" in Greenville. Later, and after attending Furman University, he went to work with the General Electric Credit Corporation and then spent a number of years with the Whirlpool Corporation. He will be remembered by his many former colleagues with Squires Realty before he retired after 18 years of service with that company. However, his love for his Lord and the many, many contributions he made in the support of the Church of God, through his passion for East Coast Bible College and his leadership there from 1988-1993 as president of the President's Council and serving on the Board of Directors, along with supporting numerous congregations in the Charlotte area will never be forgotten. Through the years, he served as Clerk and Treasurer with Washington Ave. Church of God in Greenville, SC, Chairman of the Building Committee, and other various positions, for West Columbia, SC Church of God. After he moved to Charlotte in 1969, he became Co-Chairman of the Building Committee with Eastway Dr. Church of God, and was a charter member of Central Church of God. He was presently a member, along with his wife, Daphne, of Eastway Dr. Church of God where his son, Rev. Dan A. Carter, is Pastor. Bud truly loved the Lord. He was a very giving and compassionate man, "the kind of man that would give you the shirt off his back..." his family would say, and remembering that "never a slang word came from Bud's lips". He was athletic, playing on the Central Church of God's softball team and he would play golf when time allowed. However, Bud was just as content to be in his flower bed at home. He was a real family man. In addition to Bud's wife, Daphne, of Charlotte, immediate family members include his children, James E. Carter, Jr. of Charlotte, Rev. Dan A. Carter( Myra), of Charlotte, and Kimberly C. Rick (Joe), of Matthews; sisters, Louise Walker(Ted), of Greenville, SC, Doris Murphree of Liberty, SC, and Brenda Page(Jerry), also of Greenville; his grandchildren, Christi Seyboth(Barry) of Greensboro, Hope Southern(Matt) of Charlotte, Danny A. Carter, Jr.(Ashley) of Hillsboro, NC, Alley, Cody, and Carley Rick of Matthews; his great grandchildren, Kyla and Eden Southern and Nick and Gab Seyboth.
