Jane Pope Faires of Charlotte, NC and Cheraw, SC went to be with the Lord on March 5, 2013. She was a loving and wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. Jane's life was a testimony of love, kindness, courage and passion for our Lord. She had a true servant's heart, always putting the needs of others ahead of her own. Born in Wallace, North Carolina on June 20, 1931 she was the daughter of Graham Alexander and Evelyn Harrell Pope. Preceding her in death was her son, James "Jim" H. Lockamy III. A graduate of Peace College and the University of NC, Chapel Hill, Jane retired from Southeastern General Hospital in Lumberton, NC after many years of service. She was very active in her church in Cheraw as an Elder, Circle leader and past Moderator of the Women of the Church. She was also an active participant in church life at Selwyn Avenue Presbyterian Church in Charlotte. Survivors include her loving husband Alton M. Faires of Charlotte, NC, one daughter Mary Jane Lockamy Evans and husband David R. Evans, three grandsons, Alexander Christopher Evans and wife Lori Beth Bullard Evans of Florence, SC, Joshua Kyle Evans and John Graham Evans of Cheraw, SC and one granddaughter Katelyn Ray Evans of Cheraw, SC. Jane is also survived by her brother Graham Aubrey Pope and wife Peggy Wells Pope, one niece and two nephews. She was loved and cherished by her husband Al's family including his three daughters and their spouses, 6 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren. Celebrations honoring Jane's life will be held in Charlotte at Selwyn Ave. Presbyterian Church on Saturday, March 9 at 11am and on Monday, March 11 at 3:30 pm at First Presbyterian Church, Cheraw, SC. Visitation will follow both services.
