John Thomas Stansell

John Thomas Stansell, age 85, of Hemby Bridge, NC went to be with Christ the morning of April 3, 2024 at home surrounded by family and friends. John was born to Lunie and Irene Stansell on May 29, 1938 in Pickens, SC. 

John and his wife Jean were married on June 10, 1961 and were married for 62 years. John retired as an engraving supervisor from Classic Engraving after 30 years in the industry. He spent four years as a Military Policeman for the Air Force and then an additional two years in the Air Force Reserves. He also volunteered for approximately 20 years with the Hemby Bridge Fire Department. He was an active member of Sardis Baptist Church where he came to faith in Christ and was baptized. 

John is preceded in death by his parents Lunie and Irene Stansell; his brothers: Ernest, Dewey, and Jack Stansell; his sisters: Betty Joe Kato and Willie Mae Stansell; and infant great-grand daughter Addi Smith. He is survived by his wife of 62 years: Jean Stansell; his daughters: Kayln Smith (husband Nathan) and Rana “Becky” Stansell; his grandchildren Adam Smith (wife Lindsey), Brandy Brown (husband Wayne), Jeremy Smith (wife Alesha), Bailey Dydula, and Gabriel Dydula; his eight great-grandchildren; his brother: Richard Stansell; his sister Opal Thomas; and his many nieces and nephews. 

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 6, 2024 at Sardis Baptist Church in Indian Trail, NC. The family will receive visitors at 1:00 PM in the Sanctuary followed by the memorial service at 2:00 PM; officiated by his grandson, Rev. Adam Smith. A graveside will follow the service at the Sardis Baptist Church Cemetery. Friends are invited to join the family for the graveside. 

In lieu of followers, the family have asked friends and family who desire to make a contribution to one of the following dear to John: 

Hospice of Union County (for their care, love, and dedication to John in his final months) 
Sardis Baptist Church of Indian Trail: Missions Fund (for the furtherance of the Gospel to the Nations) 
Hemby Bridge Fire Department “Community Programs” (for assisting seniors adults with smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors)
