June Elda LaPlant, born on June 5, 1932, in the quaint town of Truxton, NY, departed this world on January 4, 2025, in Matthews, NC, leaving behind a loving family who will surely miss her. June lived most of her life in Cortland County yet with more than a few moves around the country in her early years due to the depression and her father's need to provide for his family.
June graduated from Cortland High School in 1950, and upon graduation she entered the workforce immediately. Her career as a bookkeeper spanned an impressive 36 years, during which she diligently served at the Cortland National Bank and later, as the Head Bookkeeper at Homer National Bank (now KeyBank). June was not just good with numbers; her diligent, faithful work ethic embodied the very meaning of professionalism and dedication.
Known for her brilliant blue eyes and immaculate style, she possessed a warmth that drew people to her, enhanced by a listening ear and an unwavering faith in Christ. Her generous spirit knew no bounds; she had a unique ability to see the needs of others and would often provide what she could to fill those gaps, even if it meant sacrificing herself.
Throughout her life, June was characterized by her optimism and calm demeanor, qualities that were particularly evident during times of trial. She was a steadfast friend, always ready to lend an ear or share a kind word, making it impossible for anyone to doubt her loyalty or love. Her steadfast faith was another cornerstone of her life, shining brightly as she shared the good news of salvation with anyone willing to listen—even those who approached with skepticism.
June's family was her pride and joy. She is survived by her loving daughter, Karen (Tinelli) Fresina, and her sons, David LaPlant (daughter-in-law, Tauheedah LaPlant) and Tom LaPlant (daughter-in-law, Dawn LaPlant). Each of her ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren will never be in doubt of her overflowing love for each and every one of them. June also leaves behind many cherished nieces and nephews, each of whom has felt her warmth and kindness.
In her passing, June joins her beloved husband, Edward LaPlant, her dear sister, Barbara Lyon, and her son, Stephen Tinelli, as well as her grandson, Marcus LaPlant.
June was a light in the lives of many, and her legacy to those left behind is one of walking humbly and serving the Lord.
