Luther Charles Baker, 74, of Charlotte, NC, passed away on December 21, 2023, in Charlotte. He was born on December 6, 1949, in Marion, NC. Luther leaves behind a loving family, including his wife Ann Hall Baker of Charlotte; his daughter Melissa Baker Lancaster (Russell); and his granddaughters Millie and Matttie Grace, all of Indian Trail, NC. He is also survived by his brother Hal Baker (Janna) of Marion, his sister Rosalie Ellington of Marion, and his nephews Hal Baker II (Amy) of Marion and John Baker (Sara) of Harrisburg, as well as several nieces and nephews. Luther was preceded in death by his father McFee Baker, his mother Loree Baker, his brother Ronnie Baker, and his sister Helen Johnson.
Luther attended McDowell High School and went on to earn an Associates Degree from Charlotte College. He had a successful career, starting at Northwestern Bank in Operations for 15 years before transitioning to the automotive industry. Luther found great joy in his work at Hendrick Lexus, where he dedicated 27 years of his life.
Outside of work, Luther had a vibrant personality and many interests. He easily made friends and expressed his love through acts of kindness towards others. Luther was known for his loyalty in his personal life and to those he worked with. He enjoyed various sports, including softball, basketball, football, and fishing. In his spare time, Luther found solace in gardening and woodworking.
Luther was a charter member of Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church, where he found spiritual fulfillment. His faith was an important aspect of his life.
A memorial service to celebrate Luther's life will be held at Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church on January 6, 2023, at 11:30am, with visitation to follow the service. Contributions in Luther's memory can be made to Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 78175, Charlotte, NC 28271.
