Malcolm Petitt, 71, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 21, 2012 while at home and surrounded by his loving family. While battling Alzheimer's for several years, he remained the calm and cheerful person that everyone knew him to be. He was born in Bethesda, Maryland, on July 23, 1941. After college, he entered the computer field and managed the IT department at National Wildlife Federation in Leesburg, Virginia. He later decided to change career paths and started his own renovating and remodeling company as there was nothing that he could not design, build or repair. In 1986 he relocated to Charlotte to build spec homes for a local land developer. After a few years he, once again, started a renovating and remodeling company and retired in 2007. He was an avid bowler, gardener, sports enthusiast and mostly enjoyed spending time with the love of his life that he was married to for 49 years. Mac's immediate family includes his wife, Geri Mollison Petitt; his son, Rhyne Garrett Petitt, and his fiance, Christine Buffano, of Pineville; his sister, Nancy Hadley of Charlotte; his sister and brother-in-law, Ellen and Al Jameson of Clearwater, Florida and many cousins, nieces and nephews. The family wants to thank Teresa Evans and Renee Nigro for being the most wonderful caregivers for over a year. And, enough cannot be said about the staff at Presbyterian Hospice who did more than could ever have been expected in caring for Mac. **In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Presbyterian Hospice and Palliative Care, P.O. Box 33549, Charlotte, NC 28233-3549. - -
