Marge Schmidt

January 14, 1931 — December 6, 2013

Margaret "Marge" Ruth Schmidt, 82, of Mint Hill, North Carolina, went to be with the Lord Friday evening, December 6, 2013, at home surrounded by her loving family. Marge was born on January 14, 1931 along with her twin brother, Robert Freas, to Matilde and Clarence Freas and older sister, Betty Freas Roberts, in New York City. She grew up in Canarsie, New York. It is there she met her beloved husband, Chester Schmidt. They were married on February 3, 1951. They began their lives in Canarsie, eventually moving to North Massapequa, NY, Ft. Lauderdale, FL, and Highlands, NC raising six children (four biological and blessed with two more adopted). Ultimately they ended up in Mint Hill, NC. Love for the Lord, a servant's heart, the gift of hospitality, discernment, wisdom, and a giving spirit were her greatest qualities. Although she often seemed quiet and demure, she had an incredible sense of humor, laughing at herself, and enjoying laughter with family and friends, which often sparked pranks and silly antics, making it even more of a pleasure to be with her. Some of the nicknames she acquired over the years were "Babe" (Chet's pet name for her), "Miggles", "Nosey-Rosey", "Macaroni Marge" (‘the best you ever tasted') and "BridgeMama". As a wife, she adored her husband, "Chetty Baby", being his best friend and confidant and supporting him as he built his own business along the way. They were truly ONE in the Lord. She loved being a mom and grandmother seeing them as a gift from the Lord. As a mother, she knew her responsibility as Mom, but also had the gift of being a friend to her children and giving wise counsel (whether we wanted to admit it or not -- usually she was right!). To her family, she was the most beautiful woman, inside and out. Her children arise and call her blessed, her husband also and he praises her. She accomplished her desire to become an LPN. She enjoyed giving of herself by volunteering. She participated at the NY World's Fair with "Sermons from Science", Pioneer Girls (although not the camping type) and other activities within the church and various Christian organizations. She, along with her dear husband and a few friends, were at the forefront of starting a new church in Highlands, NC. She volunteered her time with the church as secretary and sang in the choir. She took very seriously the study of the Word of God, being involved in group study as well as her own private study. She also had a love of history, enjoyed tennis and playing Bridge. Her greatest passion was knowing the Love and Good News of Jesus Christ. Through her life actions and speech, she shared this gift with others. Second to this was her love for unborn babies and to give hope to unwed mothers. She not only "talked the talk", but "walked the walk" by counseling and taking young single women into her home (with the full support of her husband) during their pregnancies. She was there to love and care for them as they made plans for the future of both mother and child. Both Marge and Chet made a difference, not only in the lives of the mothers, but also to these precious babies, giving them a chance of life. A HUGE thank you goes to her beloved husband, Chet, who loved and cared for her faithfully for almost 63 years but especially the last few difficult years of her life. It has been a privilege and honor to not only observe this kind of love, but to truly understand the verse, "Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her." ~Ephesians 5:25 ~. Even through all her suffering, she trusted God -- staying faithful to Him, always managing a smile or laugh, radiating the Joy of the Lord, and allowing us the opportunity to care for all her needs with patience and grace. We will miss her GREATLY, but we rejoice that God's timing is always good and she is now at perfect peace with her Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ. "Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints." ~Psalm 116:15~ In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to: Living Memorial The JESUS Film Project 27631 La Paz Rd, Suite A Laguna Niguel, CA 92677 - -
