Maria Ines Espin went to be with the Lord September 26, 2018. A native of Quito, Ecuador, she entered the "Convento de las Marianitas" Convent at age 17 and rose to the position of Mother Superior. Her Religious Name was "Mother Felicia". She later moved to the United States and continued to be an active Nun in Miami, Florida. In 1972, she left the convent to help her youngest sister raise family in Charlotte. Always a devoted Catholic, she remained active in the Church and was a parishioner at Our Lady of the Assumption church for over 50 years. Maria lived most of her years in Charlotte's Plaza Midwood area. She worked as a seamstress in the North Davidson area as part of the family business until the late 1990's. Miss Espin spent her life caring for others, especially children. She enjoyed the simple pleasures of life like reading her Bible by the sea, listening to music of all types and attending mass daily. She was known for her calm demeanor and for being exceptionally resilient. She will be remembered as a wonderful, caring soul who lived her life for God. Never one to be concerned with riches, her method of payment was to say she would pray for blessings on your behalf. She is preceded in death by her brothers Alfonso Espin and Victor Espin, and Sister Alicia Coello. She is survived by her sisters Blanca Espin and Rosario Castrillon, and brother Jaime Espin, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. -
