Mary Evelyn Belk

MONROE. NC - Mary Evelyn Belk, 96, went to heaven on May 19, 2023. 

Our loving mother, born December 29, 1926 in Union County, North Carolina, was the daughter of the late Theron H. and Lura Helms Carter. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husbands, William Huey Neal and Gene Belk; brothers, Richard Earl Carter and Charles Shirley Carter; and sisters, Blanche Carter Horne and Blake Carter Beachum.

Evelyn worked at Perfect Fit Industries and spent many years after retirement cooking cakes for people, sitting with sick or elderly people, keeping children and enjoying her family.  She was a long time member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church in Waxhaw, NC, which she loved dearly. 

Evelyn is survived by sons, William H. Neal, Jr. and wife, Libby, Randy Boyce Neal and Timothy Mark Neal and wife, Julie; daughters, Barbara Joyce Rushing and husband, Hayne and Dianne Marie Mills and husband, Neal; 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and many nieces and nephews.   

Please join us in celebrating her life 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 26, 2023 at Bethlehem United Methodist Church, 5300 Nesbit Road, Waxhaw, NC. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service, at the church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
