Mary Daniel Jones

Mary Daniel Jones, 91, passed away peacefully in her sleep and went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, August 17, 2021. Her departure was of natural causes.

Mary was born on November 28, 1929, in York, SC, to Daniel and Lizzie Brown. She married Fred Samuel Jones in 1947 and they had six children. Mary accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior at a young age. She was a member of Indian Hill AME Zion Church until 1997, when she began attending Central Church with her son, Samuel.

Mary worked various jobs through the years to take care of her six children, from textile mills to house cleaning. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed preparing delicious meals for family and friends in the neighborhood and at church gatherings. Mary also loved to sing! She sang in the hymnal choir at Indian Hill, and then blessed her Sunday School class with song when she started attending Central.

She leaves cherished memories to her children, Freddie J. Jones (Gwendolyn), Dorothy J. Simpson (John), Samuel L. Jones (Johnnie Mae), Katie M. Reynolds (Sylvester), Paulette Scott and Howard Jones: grandchildren; Erika Jones, Tamikia Greene, Victor Scott, Antonio Scott, Monica Gray, Lamont Jones, Tiana Jones, Keisha Jones, Angelica Jones, Krystal McDaniel and Marvin Starr; sister, Annie Strong; niece, Pearline Morrow; great-grandchildren, Kayla Gray, Kendal Gray, Jarvis Payne, Cameron Greene, Julion Greene, Jasmine Greene, Adrianna Roseboro, Alanna Houston, Jalen Jones, Peggy Jones, Dilanian Jones, Victor Scott Jr., Arialana Scott, and Amir Scott; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
