Mattilene Marie Hawfield

February 19, 1930 — January 29, 2020

Mattilene Marie Hawfield (Yarbrough) 89, of Charlotte, NC, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and her beloved husband, David, on Wednesday, January 29, 2020.

Born in Marvin, NC, Mattilene was the daughter of the late James Edward Yarbrough and Mattie Price Yarbrough.

Survivors include her son, Roger Hawfield (Julie); her daughters, Teresa Sims and Julie Simpson (Bryan); her grandchildren; Barry Sims(Cortney), Kara Sims, Christopher Hawfield, Caleb Simpson, Kyle Simpson, Kristy Hoover (Ryan), Kara Simpson: her great grandchildren Lily Hoover and Bexley Sims.

Mattilene graduated valedictorian from Indian Land High School in 1948.  After high school she went on to work in finance for The Schoenith Candy Company, Celanese and Alan Meade Construction Company.  While her children were in school she chose to be a stay at home mom, making her home a place that everyone felt welcomed and loved.

She was known for being a great southern scratch cook who loved to prepare delicious meals for her family and friends. You would never leave her house hungry. She was a shining example to her children what a praying mama could accomplish through tough times and through faith.

Most of all we will remember Mattilene for her love and devotion to her family, and to her Savior, Jesus Christ. I am certain as she entered heaven she heard the Lord say, "Well done, my good and faithful servant."

The family will greet friends on February 4th starting 12:30 at Matthews United Methodist Church,  801 S Trade St, Matthews, NC 28105. The service following at 1:30.
