Mona Marie Bales, 85, of Charlotte, died November 5, 2012, after suffering a severe stroke. She was the daughter of Burt Mutersbaugh and Gertrude Thrall Mutersbaugh and, before moving to the Charlotte area, was a long time resident of Davie County. She was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas Dale Bales, in 1982. Together, they frequently entertained guests and musicians with Bluegrass Music in their home when they resided in Mocksville, NC. Mona was born April 21, 1927, in Hannibal, MO, and raised in Lake Charles, LA. She was an accomplished musician, however, with a degree in English from the University of Missouri, her career as an educator led to teaching in Mocksville and Winston-Salem. Her immediate family includes her twin daughters, Gertrude (Trudi) Alice Bales of Greenville, SC, and Mollie Marie Henninger, and husband, Josh, of Charlotte, NC; her son, Jeffrey Douglas Bales of Mocksville; grandchildren, Trudi Marie Henninger of Asheville, and Joseph B. Henninger, III of Chattanooga, TN; her brothers, Burt Mutersbaugh, and wife, Cherie, of KY, and John Mutersbaugh of MO. -
