Norman John Bond

Mr. Norman John Bond, 79, of Charlotte, NC, passed away peacefully on March 19, 2011 after a quiet & uncomplaining battle against Parkinson's disease. He was at home surrounded by his family. Mr. Bond was born on March 26, 1931 in Cardiff, Wales, UK. He graduated with a degree in Physics from the University of Cardiff and was employed in the field of Research & Development in both England and Wales, and in Charlotte with Hoechst Celanese. Mr. Bond was deeply involved with Theatre Charlotte for many years as a Board Member & Board President and as a "backstage" volunteer. He was an avid gardener and was renowned for his vegetable garden. He also enjoyed deep-sea fishing in the Outer Banks and cherished the time spent in Cape Hatteras each year with his family. He loved feeding his grandchildren coffee ice cream. Mr. Bond's favorite Public Television programs were The Eastenders & Dr. Who. His survivors include his wife, Jill, daughter Suzanne & husband Jay, and step-children Timothy Hill & wife Karen of Chatham, VA, Alison Evans & husband Randy of Concord, NC and Sandra McDonald & husband Robert of Rock Hill, SC. He is survived by his precious grandchildren, Carleigh Mutterer of Rock Hill, SC, Ashlyn Evans & twins Tyler & Kinsey Evans of Concord, NC and step-grandchild Crystal Pope of Chatham, VA. Also surviving are his brother Roger Bond & wife Ann of France & cousin Helena Salmon & husband Hugh of Malta, GC. He was predeceased by his son Stephen. The family wishes to express sincere thanks to Dr. Ed. Bradford & Dr. Andrea Diedrich for their dedicated care & compassion over the years and to Hospice & Palliative Care Charlotte Region for traveling The Final Journey with us.
