Norris Wilford Link, Jr

Norris Wilford Link, JR. passed from this life of 90 years to his eternal home on November 19, 2023. A celebration of his life and home-going will be held Saturday, December 2, 2023 at Central Church in Charlotte, NC with the reception following the service. Interment will take place on December 4^th at 10AM at Salisbury National Cemetery in Salisbury, North Carolina.

Born and raised in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, son of Norris Wilford Link and Lydia Cleo Cartwright, he was a graduate of Hanes High School and the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. He served in the U.S. Army, Military Police Corp, 525^th Detachment, post World War II in France and Germany. Over the years he was involved in several business ventures in sales and marketing.

Norris had such a quick wit and sense of humor that was known and so enjoyed by everyone by everyone who know him, even at times expressed during illness. He was an avid reader, especially of history, often enjoying relating to someone what he had discovered. Over the years, favorite times were with friends and family for cookouts, (a good steak being his specialty) precisely laying the perfect log fire in the fireplace for family times, out of town football games with Paul, ice cream dates with Julia, day trips to the Blue Ridge Parkway for picnics with Barbara, demonstrating the proper way to get that perfect shoeshine, exploring historical sites and the North Carolina mountains he loved.

Norris Link is a story of a life specially touched by God. At 12 years of age he heard the gospel at a youth rally in Winston-Salem and grew in his teens to entrust his life to his savior, Jesus Christ. There was a special place in his heart to care for some sick children. He was a kind man. So important to him were his church and classmates at Central Church, foreign mission trips, and to study and teach his bible.

Norris treasured his family and being “Poppie” to his grand-children Isaiah, Katie and Simone, following their lives in detail, including great-niece Maren too, and asking questions about and praying for them right up to a few days before passing.

His earthly presence will forever be missed as we hold him dear in our hearts. He leaves behind to treasure his memories, his wife of 65 years Barbara Ann, son and daughter in law Norris Paul and Sheila, Daughter Julia Anna, brother in law and sister in law Roland Paul Weyland and Jessie, sister in law Julie Weyland, grandson Isaiah Link, granddaughters Katie Link and Simone Link-Stoenberg, niece and husband Meggan Midbo and Jeffrey, niece Heather Weyland, great niece Maren Midbo, special family members Yves Bazile, nephew Justin Weyland and cousin Patricia Estes.

From the family to a host of wonderful friends; “We are overwhelmed and so grateful for your kindness and loving care through Norris’s illnesses over the years. We couldn’t have cared for him without you, and without special ones Beatrice Amoako, Terri Ingram and hospice nurse Keri Waddington.”
