Paris Edward "Eddie" Booth

February 1, 1937 — February 23, 2025

Rock Hill

Paris Edward “Eddie” Booth met his Lord face-to-face on Sunday, February 23, 2025, passing peacefully at PruittHealth Rock Hill where he lived for the past three years.

Born in Huntington, WV, to parents George Hurston Booth and Dorothy Blair Booth, Eddie spent his childhood years in Rocky Mount, NC. It was there where he earned the rank of Eagle Scout in Boy Scout Troop 7, and was graduated from Rocky Mount Senior High School. He and the family worshiped and were active at First Presbyterian Church.

Eddie loved football, and spent a year at Fork Union Military Academy to prepare for college. He studied at Davidson College where he was a member of Davidson's first varsity soccer team, and formed lifelong friendships with his classmates and fraternity brothers.

He was active in North Carolina Republican politics, working in the 1966 congressional campaign of longtime friend Jim Gardner, and helping to manage the 1972 gubernatorial campaign of Jim Holshouser – the first Republican NC governor elected in the 20th century

Eddie was a born salesman. His career centered principally on sales in a variety of industries ranging from industrial supplies, to cosmetics, to metals, to leasing services. But he also worked in industrial development for the state of North Carolina before moving to the Charlotte area in the mid-70's to be the general manager of a plastics extrusion plant.

Eddie was also a man of deep faith, serving in a variety of ways as an elder at Myers Park Presbyterian Church, then at Forest Hill Church, and later as a children's Sunday school teacher at Church at Charlotte.

People in business and at church knew him to be tirelessly optimistic – devoted always to encouraging and helping people, especially people pursuing sobriety.

Family and friends knew his generosity, his ready sense of humor, his penchant for singing impromptu songs, and possibly inventing the type of humor now known as “dad jokes.”

But more than anything, Eddie wanted to be known as an imperfect man saved by grace through faith in a perfect savior – Jesus Christ.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and by stepson Neal Monroe Chastain.

He is survived by his children – George Edward Booth (Martha) of Rock Hill, SC; Bryson Booth Jenkins (Michael) of Trenton, NC; James Fountain Booth (Joy) of Glen Allen, VA and Alan Hewell Chastain (Pamela) of Spring Hill, TN.

By his grandchildren – Samuel Yates Booth (Rhianna); Joseph Blair Booth (Addie); George Peyton Jenkins; Meredith Jenkins Werline (Tyler); Layne Bryson Jenkins; Hilary Booth Mackey (Evan); Lindsey Booth Price (Adam); Lauren Faith Booth; Mallory Ryan Luster (Brent); Laura Elizabeth Glaab (Mike); Mac Monroe Chastain (Kelley); Olivia Ann Chastain (Sam); Evan Neal Chastain; Alec Jackson Long (Katie); Krista Grace Long; Jack Allen Long.

By great grandchildren – Ellie, Yates, Calvin, Alex, Theo, Emilia, Weston, Sadie, Everly, Ethan, and Declan.

To honor his wishes, New City Church will host a celebration of life for Eddie on Saturday, March 8, at 1:00 PM EST in the church sanctuary. The family will receive visitors following the service.

Interment will be at Pineview Cemetery in Rocky Mount, NC.
