Richard (Dick) Burke Schnedl, of Charlotte, died February 17, 2012. He was 85 years old. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Peggy Schnedl; two children, Burke Schnedl (and wife Julie), Ann Peery (and husband Tom); and two grandchildren, Zane Peery and Wylie Schnedl Dick was: an incredible husband, father, Architect, golfer, croquet-player, civil war enthusiast, builder of muzzle-loaders, award-winning photographer (photographed reconnaissance missions in WWII) and High School track mile record holder (GA). He valued unique family vacations: backpacking the Appalachian Trail, sailing Lake Norman, etc. His expertise in Architecture expanded in many directions: Schnedl & Schnedl Architects/Reidsville, NC: Well-renowned Church of the Holy Infant; Hayes, Howell and Associates /Southern Pines, NC: Pinecrest High School, First Baptist Church, St. Anthony's Catholic Church and the African Pavilion, N.C. Zoo. Resident Architect on Bald Head Island, NC: Designed 40+ homes while keeping the style harmonious with the landscape of a barrier island. Upon retirement, he continued his talents artistically designing/building lamps and other woodworking pieces in the Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired tradition. A month prior to his death, a collection of his architectural drawings/blueprints/plans was made available to researchers and lovers of architecture at the NCSU Libraries at http://lib.ncsu.edu/findingaids/mc00428.
